Tommy’s decision support tool

www.tommysapp.org  The app is an online clinical decision support tool to help ensure all pregnant women receive the right care at the right time, and ultimately to save more babies’ lives. This tool is relatively new and Sheffield is one of the first units in the country to benefit from its implementation, you may not have heard of it before from family or friends or have not used it in previous pregnancies so please make use of the further information available on the RCOG website. Be reassured that this is a web based app therefore there is nothing to download onto your device.

The Tommy's Pathway: Clinical Decision Support Tool offers a more accurate assessment of each pregnant woman and person's needs during pregnancy and offers personalised care recommendations that are in line with best practice national clinical guidelines.

A more accurate assessment supports improved maternity care to ensure that each pregnant woman and person is offered the right care at the right time, no matter where they live.

  • From your first booking appointment, it provides a more accurate assessment of each pregnant woman and person's chance of premature birth (having your baby early) and of developing problems with the placenta that can show as pre-eclampsia and/or prevent your baby from growing. Understanding the chance of these developments early in pregnancy means that the right care can be offered at the right time to help lower the chance and to improve outcomes for pregnant women and people and their babies.
  • The care recommendations offered, are in line with best practice national clinical guidelines and are personalised to each pregnant woman and person.
  • It also provides pregnancy information and advice from trusted sources, to support pregnant women and people make informed decisions about their care and to advocate for themselves during appointments. This information can also support women and pregnant people to understand when they might need to go to hospital if something does not feel right, for example what you should do if you experience any pain, bleeding or changes in your baby's movements
  • From the very beginning the Tommy's Pathway has been designed by women and health care professionals working together. The Tommy's App log in is designed for you, to support you in understanding the care you should be offered, and to help you make informed decisions about your care.
  • This collaboration is funded by Tommy’s Charity, and is led jointly by the Royal College of Obstetricians and Gynaecologists (RCOG) and the Royal College of Midwives (RCM), who together represent the entire maternity workforce in the UK. Together with our Women’s Advisory Group and our academic and charitable partners, we formed the Tommy’s National Centre for Maternity Improvement. Find out more about our aims on our website
