Facilities for families

We want you to spend as much time as you can with your baby while they are in the neonatal unit. Here are some things to help you and your family during this time.

Food
There are two kitchens you can use:

  • One near the Special Care desk
  • One in the parent accommodation area (ask staff for the door code)

You can bring your own food. Please put your name on it.
Please keep the kitchens clean and tidy for others.

Meals

Breakfast

  • You can make toast in the kitchen.

Lunch

  • You can order a sandwich.
  • Fill out a form at the Special Care desk before 11am.
  • Give it to the ward clerk.
  • Sandwiches will be delivered to the family kitchen on the parent’s corridor.

 Dinner

  • There are ready meals in the freezer.
  • Cooking instructions and allergy info are on the box.

Snacks

    •  Snacks are in the kitchen.
    •  If there are none, ask a staff member.

Facilities for families and visitors
On the neonatal unit, there is a toilet for families and visitors. It is near the entrance and has disabled access. Everyone can use it.
There is also a family room near the entrance. It has chairs and sofas for resting. There are toys and books for brothers and sisters to play with.

Parent rooms
Seven parent bedrooms are available on the neonatal unit so families who are a long way from home or preparing for discharge can stay near their baby.

Beds are also available for parents in one of our special care rooms on the neonatal unit.

Additional parent accommodation is provided a short walk away from the neonatal unit.

Parking

  • You can get a parking permit while your baby is in the unit.
